Alice McKelvey is the Director of Legal Services and joined the Police Ombudsman's Office in February 2025, having been In House Counsel in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Alice McKelvey is the Director of Legal Services.

Alice joined the Police Ombudsman’s Office in February 2025 from the Northern Ireland Assembly where she had been in-House Counsel since 2009. 

Alice, who is a graduate of Dundee University, was called to the Bar in 2003, and has a Masters in Procurement Law from Nottingham University. She has also undertaken training as a Commercial Mediator through the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS) at Queen’s University Belfast.

Alice has extensive experience in the areas of judicial review, inquiries and inquests having acted on behalf of applicants, respondents and next of kin. She has a proven track record of finding innovative solutions to the most complex of legal problems and distilling them appropriately for her audience. Alice is a leading lawyer in Human Rights law with substantial experience of acting and advising in constitutional and public law matters, ensuring principles of accountability and transparency are upheld.
